I pretty much had forgotten about him till I saw this post. I did enjoy watching him talk with kids on some show after I got home from school long, long ago.

That's what I remember too. Watching his TV show after school, as he interviewed the kids sitting in chairs up on the stage.

As for his acting nasty to the mother of cathyftr in the early '70s, not to excuse his behavior in any way, but it might have had something to do with this:

"His 20-year-old daughter, Diane Linkletter, died on October 4, 1969, by jumping out of her sixth-floor kitchen window. Linkletter claimed that she committed suicide because she was on, or having a flashback from, an LSD trip, but toxicology tests done after the incident detected no signs of LSD use, and it is quite likely that the drug played no part in her suicide. Linkletter spoke out against drugs to prevent children from straying into a drug habit."

My mom had a book titled "Kids Say The Darndest Things" by Art Linkletter. Too bad it was long gone by the time she passed away. It had some of the best quotes from the show and it was profusely illustrated by none other than Charles M. Schulz himself. The pictures not only included illustrations of kids who looked like they came directly from the "Peanuts" strip but there were pictures of ADULTS as well. I don't know how many times I read that book from cover to cover when I was a kid.
